High-level summary
Health Diagnostics have supported Boundaries for Life (B4L) for two years in their mission to provide free heart and dental checks at county and international cricket matches. Under the stewardship of Dr Chet Trivedy, B4L have used Health Diagnostics’ systems and support to deliver large numbers of health checks to individuals often deemed hard-to-reach or more at risk on account of their gender and ethnicity. Fundamentally, the charity’s approach is to use sport as a way of supporting individuals to take control of their health.

Outcomes
Results snapshot
- 247 health checks delivered by a small team of volunteers over the course of a single season
- The average person predicted their heart would be 4 years younger than it the health check showed it to be
- 32% of people were estimated to have a greater than 1 in 10 chance of suffering a heart attack or stroke over the next 10 years
Follow-up outcomes
Based on data from individuals that have had multiple health checks over successive years with B4L and Health Diagnostics’ digital tools, the following outcomes have been seen:
- An average drop in diastolic blood pressure of 6.78 mmHg. This is likely to have significant effects that at least equal (if not surpass) those detailed in a meta-analysis based on 464,000 people that “showed for a BP reduction of […] 5 mmHg diastolic, there was a 22% reduction in coronary heart disease events and a 41% reduction in stroke”
- An average drop in total cholesterol of 0.56 mmol/L. According to research, “a decrease of serum cholesterol concentration of 0.6 mmol/L”, which B4L’s outcomes almost equate to, is associated with “a decrease in incidence of ischaemic heart disease of 54% at age 40 years, 39% at age 50, 27% at 60, 20% at 70, and 19% at 80”
- An 21% decrease in CVD risk scores based on the average reduction is QRISK result
